Windows network adapters explained

What network adapters are and why several can appear.

An adapter is the hardware or software connection to a network: Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth tethering, VPN, and virtual adapters from tools like virtual machines.

Traffic goes through whichever adapter is in use. With a VPN, data can appear on both the VPN and physical adapter. Monitor the one carrying your traffic; see adapter selection.
