Download speed vs upload speed

What each direction means and why they differ.

Download is receiving data: streaming, browsing, updates. Upload is sending: video calls, cloud backups, sharing files.

Many home plans are asymmetric, with upload a fraction of download. Upload matters for video calls and backups; a saturated upload can slow downloads too. See units.
