Monitoring Ethernet speed
What to check when watching a wired connection.
Ethernet usually gives steadier throughput than Wi-Fi. A link may be 100 Mbps or 1 Gbps depending on the cable, port and router; the adapter status in Windows shows the negotiated speed.
If a gigabit link only reaches 100 Mbps, try another cable. Monitor the Ethernet adapter specifically; see network adapters explained.
